The aim of master´s degree study program

Chemistry of Environment

is to bring up graduates with deep theoretical and practical knowledge of chemical pollution of environment and its consequences. Graduate of the Chemistry of Environment field gains knowledge of chemical disciplines common to all chemical fields that form both theoretical and practical foundations for further studies. This general chemical knowledge is further deepened in areas focused on environmental chemistry, analytical methods used for determination of chemical substances in the environment and studies of environmental processes and effects of chemicals on living organisms. Graduates study subjects whose content is completely focused on the study of transport and transformation processes influencing behaviour of chemical substances in the environment, study of properties of individual abiotic and biotic components of the environment associated with the study of sources, occurrence, behaviour and destiny of chemicals in individual components of the environment and the study of relationships between chemical substances in the environment and their biological effects. Much attention is dedicated to issues of collection, processing, analysis and evaluation of data obtained as a basis for analytical chemistry of the environment and also to quality of obtained laboratory chemical data and especially to complex interpretation of results of laboratory and field experiments. Graduates are experienced in modern separation and fractionization processes and analytical methods which enable to determine trace and ultra-trace quantities of chemical substances in all components of the environment. Inseparable parts of the study are subjects focused on toxicology, ecotoxicology, risk analysis, technologies reducing negative consequences of anthropogenic activity. This study program also pays significant attention to issues of informatics, modelling of environmental processes.
