The main research areas at the Department of Chemistry cover all the basic fields of chemistry. We deal with synthesis, characterization and examination of properties of organic and inorganic compounds; substances with potential use in medicine and also substances suitable for preparation of new materials. Much attention is dedicated to study of relationships between structure and reactivity of substances. Quantum chemical calculation methods are used especially for studies of properties of metal materials and alloys. We perform high-quality research in fieldd of photochemistry and supramolecular chemistry. We develop analytical methods using mass spectrometry (ICP-MS, MALDI-MS, MS-TOF) to analyze samples from fields of living and nonliving nature. Properties of metal complexes with macrocyclic ligands and coordination polymers and both their thermodynamics and kinetics are studied by means of spectrophotometry and fluorimetry. We universally use X-ray diffraction of monocrystals, nuclear magnetic resonance and other physico-chemical methods and analyses, separations and characterizations of substances.          On the first Thursday of every month, the MU Institute of Chemistry holds lectures of guests of the Brno branch of the Czech Chemical Society. Lecturers include both Czech experts and specialists from abroad. These lectures take place at the University Campus Bohunice.  More information find here.
