Tomáš Slanina: Czech chemist reaches for a solution to the main problem of clean energy

Tomáš Slanina graduated in organic chemistry from the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University in Brno. He currently works as the head of the junior research group Redox Photochemistry at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. He focuses on organic and physical organic chemistry and photochemistry. In 2016, he received a postdoctoral scholarship from the Experientia Foundation; in 2019, he received the Alfred Bader Prize for organic chemistry; in 2021, he received the Otto Wichterle award; and in 2022, he received a prestigious ERC grant for research of the storage of solar energy in chemical bonds.

Markéta Machálková: Application engineer - Life Science

Markéta Machálková: Application engineer - Life Science

Markéta Machálková is a graduate of a PhD in Chemistry at Masaryk University, which she completed in January 2020. At the same year, she started working at TESCAN ORSAY HOLDING a.s. an Application engineer for Life Science. TESCAN is one of the world's five largest electron microscope manufacturers, with production focused on scanning electron microscopes, focused ion beam microscopes and microtomographs. Electron microscopes also commonly have integrated analytical tools for chemical analysis, such as analyzers for energy dispersive spectroscopy, secondary ion mass spectrometry, and Raman spectroscopy.

Adam Pruška: PhD student at ETH Zürich

Adam Pruška: PhD student at ETH Zürich

Adam Pruška studied analytical chemistry under the supervision of prof. Preisler, currently, he is a PhD student at ETH Zürich. His research is focused on mass spectrometry and the development of new methods. Adam is also the organizer of the Slovak and Czech Scientific MeetUp, a meeting of scientists, people from the industry, and especially students from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, who work at ETH Zürich and in Switzerland.

Our graduate Radek Matuška is a chemistry teacher at the Secondary School of Chemistry in Brno. He was voted the best chemist in the Golden Amos award and received an award from the Learned Society of the Czech Republic. He is one of the leading person of the Chemistry Olympiad and he is also a lecturer at camps for students representing the Czech Republic in the International Chemistry Olympiad.

Josef Kučera: Postdoc at the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute

Josef Kučera: Postdoc at the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute

Dr. Josef Kučera is a graduate of the doctoral study program of Chemistry. Currently, he works as a postdoc in the research group of prof. Lenka Hernychová from the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute. His main research focus is the study of interactions of proteins with ligands and their structure using hydrogen-deuterium exchange combined with analysis using liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry. In 2022, he was awarded Vice-rector's award for excellent results in doctoral studies.
