Petra Vojáčková has been awarded a start-up grant by the Experientia Foundation, enabling her to set up her own research group within the Department of Chemistry at Masaryk University's Faculty of Science

Petra Vojáčková, a graduate of both our Faculty of Science and Harvard University, has been awarded a prestigious three-year start-up grant from the Experientia Foundation, covering the period 2027 to 2029. Thanks to the foundation’s support, this young scientist will establish her own research group within the Department of Chemistry at Masaryk University's Faculty of Science, starting in January 2027. A state-of-the-art laboratory awaits her.

The Third International Doctoral Conference on Advances in Chemistry , a conference (mainly) for PhD candidates organised by University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague will take place on November 6 and 7, 2026 in the Dejvice campus, Prague, Czechia. The International Doctoral Conference on Advances in Chemistry is a conference organized since 2024 at the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague by PhD candidates for PhD candidates under the auspice of the vice-rector for doctoral studies and PhD support.

Dean's Awards 2026

The Department of Chemistry was proudly represented among the recipients of this year’s Dean’s Awards of the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University. Tereza Procházková received the award in the category Best Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Student, Lukáš Veselý was recognized as Best Doctoral Student, and Hugo Semrád was honored in the category Outstanding Teachers. Congratulations to all awardees!

Department of Chemistry Celebrates Success in MASH StG/CoG Grant Competition

This year, Masaryk University awarded 13 MASH StG/CoG grants to promising researchers preparing applications for prestigious European Research Council (ERC) grants. Among the successful recipients are two scientists from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, MU.

Vojtěch Kundrát received funding for the project ActiTube: Encapsulation of Actinide Oxides in Inorganic Nanotubes. His research addresses the long-standing and increasingly relevant challenge of immobilizing highly radioactive elements generated as waste by the nuclear industry. The project will specifically investigate the encapsulation of uranium oxides within inorganic nanotubes as a potential strategy for their safe long-term storage.

Petra Vojáčková will focus on identifying new approaches in selective catalysis by utilizing stabilizing interactions with open-shell intermediates and radical transition states. The goal is to develop catalytic systems for the enantioselective abstraction of hydrogen atoms.

The awarded grants highlight the Department of Chemistry’s strong position in cutting-edge chemical research and its commitment to fostering the next generation of scientific talent.
