A Compromise Between Family and Science Is Possible

Recently habilitated Markéta Holá has managed to combine a scientific career with family life. “The female element is needed in every research group,” says Holá. According to her, women do not have to give up science even despite maternity leave and raising children.

Results of the 29th annual competition "Karel Štulík Prize 2026"

In the 29th annual competition for the best student scientific paper in the field of analytical chemistry "Karel Štulík Prize 2026", Laura Tesárová received a special jury prize for her paper entitled "LA-ICP-MS: An effective tool for studying the fate of metals in cells".

The final of the 29th annual Karel Štulík Prize competition, which focused on the best student papers in analytical chemistry, took place on February 3, 2026, at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. The competition was intended for bachelor's and master's students from Czech and Slovak universities.

Less theory, more practice. Final projects at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University welcome their first graduates

Students of the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University have been able to complete their bachelor’s studies with a final project since 2025. Since last year, 110 graduates have taken advantage of this alternative to the traditional bachelor’s thesis. Final projects are offered in the programmes Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemistry and Materials Technology for Conservation and Restoration, and Environment and Health.

President appointed new professors; ten were nominated by the MU scientific board

On 16 December, the President of the Republic, Petr Pavel, presented appointment decrees to 69 newly appointed professors at the Great Hall of the Carolinum. Among them are three male scientists and one female scientist from our faculty. We warmly congratulate all those named.

MUNI Scientist 2025

The most successful scientists or research teams of Masaryk University have been awarded the MUNI SCIENTIST AWARD 2025 for their significant achievements, publication in prestigious journals or research results. Awardees from the Department of Chemistry were dr. Tomáš Fiala, prof. Mojmír Šob and dr. Ondřej Jurček. Congratulation!
