Rector's Awards 2026

At this year’s ceremonial Dies academicus, representatives of the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, were also awarded the Rector’s Award of Masaryk University. The award for an outstanding achievement in a grant competition was presented to Dr. Tomáš Fiala, who received an ERC Starting Grant in 2025 focused on the development of new chemical tools for the targeted modification of proteins at the level of individual proteoforms, and to Associate Professor Markéta Holá for innovations in the teaching of analytical chemistry. Her approach is based on the concept of blended learning, combining laboratory instruction with online study support, inquiry-based learning elements, and gamification.

New Facilities for Cutting-Edge Science at the Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at Masaryk University’s Faculty of Science has completed the construction of new laboratory and office spaces that will significantly expand its research capabilities. The modern addition was built in less than a year as a thoughtful extension of the existing A08 building on the university campus in Brno.

Invitation to the 45th annual international conference Modern Electrochemical Methods

The 45th annual international conference Modern Electrochemical Methods (MEM) will traditionally be held from May 25th to 29th, 2026, at the Bellevue Hotel in Jetřichovice near Děčín. The event is organized with the professional cooperation of the J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Czech Chemical Society. The conference is supported by Metrohm Czech Republic s.r.o. The aim of MEM is to present to the professional public both new and existing electrochemical methods using the latest techniques and materials.

A graduate of the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, wins the Werner von Siemens Award for Best Master’s Thesis

Mgr. Dominika Bezdeková, a graduate of the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, has received the Werner von Siemens Award for the Best Master’s Thesis. The expert juries selected the winners from a total of 662 submissions across technical and natural science disciplines.

Rudolf Lukeš Prize

Every year the Experientia Foundation awards the Rudolf Lukeš Prize of 100,000 CZK to a single top Czech scientist. Applications are open until March 31st.
Spotlighting the best scientists and their achievements will increase the motivation of the scientific community to achieve excellence. That is the hope behind the Rudolf Lukeš Prize, which is awarded annually to an elite scientist in the field of organic, bioorganic or medicinal chemistry by the Czech Chemical Society’s Expert Group on Organic, Bioorganic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry in cooperation with the Experientia Foundation for an outstanding body of original work in the field published in the last five years in prestigious international journals.

Recently habilitated Markéta Holá has managed to combine a scientific career with family life. “The female element is needed in every research group,” says Holá. According to her, women do not have to give up science even despite maternity leave and raising children.

Results of the 29th annual competition "Karel Štulík Prize 2026"

In the 29th annual competition for the best student scientific paper in the field of analytical chemistry "Karel Štulík Prize 2026", Laura Tesárová received a special jury prize for her paper entitled "LA-ICP-MS: An effective tool for studying the fate of metals in cells".

The final of the 29th annual Karel Štulík Prize competition, which focused on the best student papers in analytical chemistry, took place on February 3, 2026, at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. The competition was intended for bachelor's and master's students from Czech and Slovak universities.
