Taiwanese professors gave presentations on interesting microelectronics phenomena at Masaryk University’s Department of Chemistry (Faculty of Science)

On October 29, 2025, the Department of Chemistry at Masaryk University’s Faculty of Science welcomed a delegation of prominent experts and students from Taiwan as part of an international cooperation project between Taiwanese and Czech universities (project leaders Prof. Sinn-wen Chen, Prof. Chih-Ming Chen and Doc. Pavel Brož). Professor Sinn-wen Chen, of the National Tsing Hua University, and Professor Chih-Ming Chen, of the National Chung Hsing University, are internationally renowned experts in the field of chemical engineering and materials research, with a particular focus on microelectronics and semiconductor technologies.

Professor Emeritus Milan Potáček, a prominent figure in Czech organic chemistry, has passed away

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Prof. RNDr. Milan Potáček, CSc., a prominent chemist, educator, and long-time head of the Department of Organic Chemistry at Masaryk University's Faculty of Science. Throughout his life, he made a significant contribution to the development of teaching and research in the field of organic chemistry at our faculty.

Invitation to the student conference “Chemistry is Life”

The Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry BUT has announced this year’s edition of the student conference “Chemistry is life”. The registration is open to students of chemical and related fields enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral study programmes, as well as to high-school students. At the conference, students will share the results of their creative activities either in the form of presentations or posters. The competition in student creative activities is part of the conference as well. The best contributions in each section will be awarded. They cordially invite students of the chemical faculties across the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as high-school students to participate. The conference will be held on 27 November 2025.

Our reserach: Inhaled Lead Nanoparticles Enter the Brain through the Olfactory Pathway and Induce Neurodegenerative Changes Resembling Tauopathies

The long-term cooperation of the Atomic Spectroscopy Laboratory ​ group with the scientific groups of Prof. Buchtová, MUDr. Dumková and Dr. Mikuška resulted in another publication, which was published in the prestigious journal ACS Nano. They participated in the discovery that inhalation of lead-based nanoparticles leads, among other things, to neurodegenerative brain damage, because the nanoparticles enter the brain directly through the olfactory pathway.

Chemist Tomáš Fiala has received the ERC Starting Grant and is returning with it to the Faculty of Science MU. Thanks to it, he can intensively work on clarifying the origin of Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. Congratulations.
